Shellie’s Larriette coaching career began in 2008-2009 when she assistant coached for one year. Five years later (2014) Shellie was hired as a teacher at Kanab High School and rejoined the Larriettes, this time as the head coach. At the time, KHS was in the middle of a 10-year state championship drought - a streak that started after the baseball team’s 2009 state title. That drought finally ended in 2019, when the Larriettes made history by winning the school’s first ever drill team state championship!

Since then, Kanab High has consistently earned one or two state titles each year - accomplishments that have reshaped the athletic culture at Kanab High. The drill team alone has claimed three state championships, two second place finishes and one region title. In addition to the drill team, Kanab High has celebrated three girls’ basketball state titles, two boys’ track titles, two baseball titles and one boys’ basketball state championship!
It’s a great time to be a Cowboy!
Much of the Larriettes’ success can be attributed to Coach Shellie’s incredible leadership. She’s been recognized as 2A Drill Coach of the Year not once, but twice, as well as the UHSAA Drill Coach of the Year out of all schools, 1A-6A. She was also honored with the Semper Fidelis Mentor of the Year award - a well-deserved testament to her dedication and impact.
Shellie is a coach who truly understands that the greatest rewards aren’t trophies, but the lifelong memories, friendships and life skills gained from being part of a team.
John Wooden once said, “A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.” And that is exactly who Shellie is. She changes lives.
The Larriette Legacy began long before our time, and we hope it will continue to shine brightly long after us. This program has given athletes a place to grow - not just in their athletic abilities but also in their character.
As a coaching staff, we can confidently say we’ve poured our hearts and souls into being good stewards of this special program. We’ve worked hard to honor tradition, to compete at a high level and to create an environment where our Larriettes feel both challenged and cherished. The memories we’ve made with these incredible young women are treasures we will carry with us forever.
