Congratulations to the newly-vaunted Valley High School record-setting 4x100 Meter Relay Team of (L-R): Raigen Frost, Mya Young, Annabelle Leyland and Maddie Cox!
Bret Heaton, six-foot four-inch Valley senior, joyously stretches into the Javelin Finals, tossing it for his newly-set Personal Record of 132-06 feet to acquire eighth-place at the Cedar Invitational Meet on April 29. It’s coincidently his first entry of the season in this event!
Additionally, Mya was #29 in the 100m [13.98], followed by #40 Maddie [14.22] and #46 Annie [14.49]. Mya placed #25 in the 200m [28.92]. Annie and Maddie paired into #32 and #33 with times of [29.70] and [29.89], respectively. Maddie Osterhout was #22 in the 400m [1:08.24]. Kaitlyn Baird was #30 in the 800m [2:56.24]. Maddie O. ranked #11 in the 1600m [6:03.74] and Kaitlyn was #26 [6:58.12].
In the Field events, Mya was #9 in the Long Jump [15-04]. Kimber Reeve, whose Javelin qualifying Mark [124m] is already well-established, placed #6 this time [95-05] for three-points, and Naomi Robinson was #30 [45-09]. In Discus, Kimber ranked #21 [73-05] and Naomi was #38 [56-09]. Kimber was #15 in Shot Put [27- 01.00]. All-totaled, the Girls scored four-points.
The Boys were led by Bret Heaton’s #3 leap in the High Jump [6-00.00] for six-points. His previously- set PR [6-05.00] will be the Mark he’s hoping to match or better in Region and State. Javelin witnessed #8 [132.06] Bret, with his first attempts of the season, score onepoint toward the team’s seven-point Meet total, in which Warren Spencer threw for #10 [130.10]. In the Long Jump, Bret notched #11 [19-00.00], Tyler Bonham #16 [18- 10.00] and McCoy Harris #38 15-10.00]. Warren finished #20 [2:13.86] and Tyler #24 [2:17.19] in the 800m race.
“Well, this Cedar Meet was the last chance to qualify for BYU,” summarized Head Coach Michael “Frank” Franklin. “We had pretty much everybody do their personal PRs for their events. The Girls 4x100m: they actually broke the School Record, which was great! And then, you know, Bret did his normal thing: qualified in the Jav. And then, he did usual on the High Jump and Long Jump.
“And then, everybody else did well. All the girls ran really good races. So, we’re doing good getting ready for a Meet this next weekend [May 5-6, at the BYU Invitational.] So, we’ll see how it goes, but we’re pretty excited about it!” Following that, the Region 20 Meet will holdforth at Milford on May 10, culminating in the State Championship Track Meet at BYU on May 19-20.
