“Our season came to an end this past weekend, and I was really proud of the boys for getting to the last four teams. On Thursday we played Bryce Valley, who had previously beaten us 10-4 and 12-2. We decided to pitch Payson Harris, and he did an amazing job, holding Bryce Valley to one run. Prior to that game the lowest number of runs they had scored in a game all season was five!
“Our defense was outstanding, as Payson only had one strikeout, but kept the Mustang hitters off balance, and got a lot of pop-ups and ground balls. Unfortunately, our bats were quiet, and after loading the bases in the first inning with nobody out, we weren’t able to get any runs in. And although we had runners on in several innings, we were never able to get the big hit we needed to score. They beat us 1-0; but I was very proud of our guys.
“After that we played Piute, who had lost to Panguitch, 11-1, in the double-elimination bracket. The game didn’t go as well as we had hoped, as again our bats struggled, and we only had a couple of hits. Piute had little trouble putting the ball in play, and they cruised to the 11-1 victory. While it was a disappointing way to end the season, I am proud of them for accomplishing what they did and making it to the last four teams. Huge shoutout to our seniors Boede Cox, Hadley Harris and Waylon Spencer for a great year! And to the rest of the coaching staff: Lyle Goulding, Tracee Heaton and Ted Peterson for all their hard work.”
Bryce Valley lost on Friday to Panguitch, 3-2, and then went on to lose to Piute, 5-1. On Saturday, Panguitch prevailed against Piute for the 1A Championship, 13-3.
