The Orderville Town Board met at the town offices on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Board members Marianne Leigh, Shaun Sharkey, Rory Hatch and Susan Esplin were in attendance, as were Town Clerk Carol Lamb and Town Treasurer Breanna Crofts. Mayor Lyle Goulding called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Minutes from the previous meeting and bills presented for payment were unanimously approved.
The board meeting room sported its new dais for the first time since the project’s completion. Town Treasurer Breanna Crofts organized this project from the outset, something that’s taken several months to complete. Though there’s still some wiring left to be done, the entire unit is a handsome upgrade to the board’s meeting space.
Item one on the agenda was discussion/consideration of a special meeting to consider adopting the town’s recently updated subdivision ordinance. The board agreed to schedule a town hall on the issue before the next Planning & Zoning meeting on December 18, and a special working meeting of the board immediately after.
The next two items were an application for a conditional use permit for Emily Leyland at 2240 South State Street for a small homestead/rental/family cabin. Planning & Zoning recommended against approving the application due to minimum square footage requirements. The board unanimously denied the permit application. Next, Leyland had applied for another conditional use permit for “quasi-public” use of the property at the same address. The board approved this application with four “ayes” and one abstention.
Business licenses for Rising Moon Ranch, JKC House and Lot 5 QCR were unanimously approved by the board. A discussion around rescinding the fourth agenda item from the November board meeting was tabled for further review.
The board next approved an increase to $100 of the amount of the Christmas gift certificates for the town’s firefighters, followed by adding a work meeting to the end of the December 18 Planning & Zoning meeting to review the processes of the adjustment board.
Fire Chief Earl Levanger updated the board on the application process for a FEMA grant to fund the purchase of SCBA equipment for firefighters. Next, the board unanimously approved an eight percent cost of living wage increase for town employees, followed by Breanna Crofts presenting the board’s meeting schedule for 2025.
Finally, Mayor Goulding noted that this was outgoing Town Clerk Carol Lamb’s last meeting before retiring, thanking her for more than 30 years of service and saying, “We are truly blessed to have someone who has taken such good care of our town.”
A motion to adjourn at 8:06 p.m. was unanimously approved by the board.
Orderville Town Board meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the basement of the town offices. Agendas and minutes can be found on the Utah Public Notices website at utah.gov/pmn/.
