The truck struck the SUV on the driver’s side in between the front and rear doors. According to witness reports, the truck attempted to slow down before the impact, which reduced the severity of the crash.
Of the six individuals involved in the collision, four were transported by ambulance with moderate to severe injuries.
While the location on 89A places the collision in Highway Patrol’s jurisdiction, local law enforcement and EMS from Kanab, Kane County and Fredonia aided in the response to the incident.
This intersection has been under active assessment by Kanab City for some time, with Kanab City officials expressing a desire to improve traffic control and reduce risk. Coordination continues between the City and Utah Department of Transportation, who maintain some authority over the intersection as a State Highway.
