Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library enriches young minds in Kanab

Over 250 kids have benefitted from almost 5,000 books since 2021!

In 2021, the Kane Education Foundation began funding the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for all of Kane County, and it has been making a substantial impact on the lives of young readers in the towns of Kanab, Big Water, Alton, Glendale and Orderville. Since its start in 2021, the program has served over 250 children and distributed nearly 5,000 books, fostering a love for reading in the community’s youngest members.

The Imagination Library, founded by the iconic country singer and philanthropist Dolly Parton, aims to promote early childhood literacy by providing free age-appropriate books every month to children from birth to age five. The program has been running successfully across the United States and other countries, and its effects are now resonating in our wonderful county communities.

Kane County might seem like an unlikely place for a program of this magnitude, however, the local residents have embraced the initiative, recognizing the incredible opportunity it offers to their children.

The benefits of early literacy are well-documented, and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is making a significant contribution. Children who are exposed to books early in life tend to develop better language skills, cognitive abilities and a greater capacity for creative thinking. The program also strengthens the bond between parents and children, as they share the experience of reading together.

Looking towards the future, the Kane Education Foundation plans to reach even more children and families, and perhaps inspire neighboring towns to initiate similar programs. With Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library leading the way, we can make big strides in nurturing the intellectual growth of our youngest residents.
