Erica Berg is about the little things

In 2008 Erica Berg and her mom, loaded up everything they owned, including the cats, into their minivan and headed for Kanab. They had read about Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, (BFAS) and Kanab and felt the pull.

“We got here, and it was amazing how things worked out,” Erica explained. There was a position open at BFAS. She interviewed and soon found herself tending to the rabbits. Eventually, she began photographing and updating information cards for the critters within BFAS’s care. Erica also began working on web sponsorships, helping write updates and bios, adding her flair, creating an enticing description of the subject at hand, helping to find more animals forever homes.

She was using her own camera when one of her managers replaced her camera with a digital one. “I have loved photography forever,” her camera was not digital, so she was going through film like crazy. She had always had a keen eye for nature and loved going out in her garden catching the light and movement of flowers, the digital camera gives her an instant view of the captured photo.

She began using the macro lens to catch the life of smaller crawling or flying outdoor garden visitors. With excitement in her voice she explained, “I want people to see things like the details on the wings of a dragonfly or a bee laden pollen. I hope to engage people into appreciating the little things.”

Because of her love of animals and experience at BFAS she began specializing in pet photography, catching their unique personalities. “Our animals are not with us long enough,” she explained. One of her goals is to capture a companion’s photo so the family can have a wall hanging that reflects that special family member who gave them so much joy.

“If you have a passionate gift, don’t make excuses. Time is finite and to do things that make our heart happy and bring joy to the world, needs to be shared.” Erica’s pet and macro photography do that. One of her websites is aptly named Sight to Soul, where she takes the Sight of the photo and reaches the Soul of the viewer.

She has a separate website, erica-berg.com hosting website design, estate and vacation rentals. Using her gift of writing to catch the readers eye and promote the subject for the owner by “elevating your online presence.”

Erica also does photo portraits, on the same website, with an artist’s eye. She did a headshot of Pat Guerrero for the Chamber of Commerce. Pat was pleased and found an ad in the classifieds she thought would be perfect for Erica. Erica applied and was awarded the job of taking headshots of Paiute Tribe members. She was the photographer who took Angie Bulletts portrait, who was featured in the SUN, which captured some of Angie’s personality and professionalism.

Erica devoted her life to being with her mother, “I lived so much for my mom because I wanted nothing more than for her to be happy.” She lost her mother in 2023, “People have been so kind. I am still on my journey; nothing is certain in life. The journey can be hard, but I have chosen to be the victor rather than the victim in my story.”
