“Fall into reading” at Fredonia Elementary School

With fall in full swing, students and parents came dressed in cozy pajamas to enjoy a night of reading and earn AR points at the library. Students were able to pick any books they wanted to read, spread out a comfy blanket and read to their heart’s content.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps teachers monitor student’s independent reading. Students pick a book that is at their reading level, read it then take a short quiz on it which evaluates their reading comprehension. The points that a student earns on a quiz are based on the total point value of the quiz and the score the student received on it. Teachers use this information to set goals to continue growing strong readers.

A large number of students and their families attended and enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere as books were read and points achieved. Reading is extremely important, it increases knowledge and vocabulary, lowers stress and supports your child’s emotional growth. But perhaps the best benefit is the lasting bond you create with your child when you read with them.

Thank you to all who attended and supported their students in reading. If you would like more information on AR, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school Librarian. The next literacy night will be in December. We hope to see you there!
