The Fredonia Town Council met in the council chambers at the Fredonia Town Offices on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Council members Dirk Ballard, Frank Banks, and Kenny Johnson, and Vice Mayor Cecil Scott were in attendance. Vice Mayor Scott called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
The council first addressed consent items, unanimously approving the current meeting’s agenda and the minutes from the previous regular meeting. The council also authorized the July 1 Payment Approval Report.
With the Mayor in absence, the reports section of the agenda consisted of Ted Jensen updating the council on ongoing audit and budget development. The audit remains in process, and the budget – currently in tentative draft form – will be ready as a full draft for the council to review by July 23.
The first action item on the agenda was discussion and possible adoption of the Arizona State Library Archives and Public Records General Retention Schedule. Item two dealt with disposing of old records, with both items being part of the town office staff’s effort to bring records management procedures into compliance with state standards. The council unanimously approved both items.
Item three was discussion of contracting with Kinetic IT Solutions, located in Kanab, to provide IT services for the town. Ted Jensen reported that the last power outage revealed significant weaknesses in the town’s server, system, and backup structure that the current vendor cannot adequately address. The council unanimously approved entering into a service contract with Kinetic IT.
Item four was a discussion of possible pay increases for town library staff and was tabled for a future executive session of the council.
Finally, the council approved, with three “ayes” and one abstention, to provide a partial refund of $1,000 to a local resident around past billing for the use of a dumpster.
The meeting adjourned at 8:04 p.m. Fredonia T o w n Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the town offices. Agendas and minutes can be found on the town website, fredoniaaz.net.
