The Fredonia-Moccasin Unified School District (FMUSD) extends an invitation to the community for the Teacher Housing Open House and Ribbon Cutting to be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 a.m..
The ceremony will take place at 83 West Brown Street, Fredonia, Arizona. Following the ceremony, guests will have the opportunity to tour one of the completed units.
The project was initiated to address the rising cost of local housing and aid the FMUSD in recruiting and retaining new staff. The three duplexes offer three-bedroom, two bath units. These units are first offered to staff at a reduced rent of $1,000 with 20 percent of their monthly rent going towards a buy/ build incentive. Housing not utilized by staff will be available to the public at the going rental rate. Applications will be on site during the open house.
“We hope to accomplish several objectives with the duplexes. The first is to recruit teachers to our schools. Second, we hope to encourage them to buy or build a house in our district. Our last objective differs from the seven other Arizona school districts receiving grant awards. While they are building small units, we opted for three-bedroom units to encourage families to move to our district and area. We live in a wonderful place to raise families,” said FMUSD Superintendent Dorene Mudrow.
The $1.25 million project, completed by Anchor Electric, LLC of Kanab, Utah, was funded in large part by a competitive grant provided through Coconino and Yavapai county.
Parking for the ceremony and open house will be along Brown Street. Light refreshments will be provided.
