Shortly before 4 p.m., September 26, 2024, Fredonia Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in Fredonia. Upon arrival, officers were informed a suspect left the scene carrying two firearms following an altercation. Kanab City Police Department and Kane County Sheriff’s Office assisted with a search for the suspect, who was not located at that time.
The following day at approximately 10:30 a.m., the suspect was seen exiting a barn in Fredonia. The suspect ran from the reporting officer, then stopped and pointed a weapon at the officer who quickly moved to cover. Officers from Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Kane County SWAT, Kanab City Police Department, and Utah Highway Patrol arrived on scene to assist Fredonia Police Officers.
Fredonia residents were asked to evacuate the general area as a precaution. The suspect was located hiding under a vehicle. The suspect complied with orders to emerge, then was handcuffed and taken into custody. Residents were then notified it was safe to return to their homes.
