The Fredonia Town Council met in the council chambers at the Fredonia Town Offices on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Council members Dirk Ballard, Frank Banks, Kenny Johnson and Vice-Mayor Cecil Scott were in attendance, as were Town Clerk Tracy Stumpf and Deputy Town Clerk Brittany Jackson. Councilor Scott called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.
The council first addressed consent items, unanimously approving the current meeting’s agenda and minutes from the previous regular meeting and executive session. The council also authorized the payment register for December 11, 17 and 18, 2024.
One resident spoke about an ongoing issue with inappropriate dumping in town during the Public Comment period. The board noted that the issue is being addressed.
Sonya Kimball reported that the senior center served 202 meals, delivered 602 meals, and provided 895 takeout meals in the last month. Greg Honey, of the newly reformed Fredonia Power Board reported that the board needs new members, and also provided an update on the board’s renewed operations.
Public Works Director Skyler Palmer updated the board regarding ongoing projects, including power meter upgrades that will improve efficiency and customer service.
The council unanimously approved more than a dozen action items, including replacing the cinder block walls at the transfer station, standardizing some police department fees, two adjustments to ongoing projects in town being undertaken by Iron Rock Group. The board next presented plaques and expressed their gratitude to librarians Lisa Findlay and Tonya Johnson for their years of service, followed by the swearing in of two new firefighters.
Finally, Vice-Mayor Cecil Scott administered the oath of office to Dirk Ballard and Frank Banks for new terms as members of the council.
