In a press release to the Southern Utah News titled “Garkane planning for the future,” Garkane energy announced, “As part of succession planning efforts for key positions at Garkane Energy Cooperative, the Garkane Board of Directors has named Bryant Shakespear as future Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when Dan McClendon retires. Bryant is a valuable asset to the cooperative and has over 20 years’ experience as Engineer and (five years) as the current Chief Operating Officer (COO).”
McClendon started at Garkane in May 2014, after working as General Manager for Delta Montrose Electric Association in Colorado for seventeen years before that, and he continues to serve as Garkane’s CEO - McClendon has not shared a retirement date. Garkane did not specify why this decision was made and announced at this time, nor did Bryant or McClendon. With the CEO succession in place, Garkane operations continue per the norm until such a time that McClendon chooses to retire, at which point Shakespear will take his place.
