The Healthy Kane County Foundation has a goal to get people moving! We are passionate about helping people live their healthiest lives. We put on a walking challenge for all three elementary schools in the county: Kanab, Valley and Big Water. We were hopeful that it would get kids to be more active, and they didn’t disappoint!
We started the challenge by giving each child a pedometer so they could measure their steps each day. The school with the most average steps would win $1000 for P.E. equipment, second place school would receive $500 and third place $250. They then tracked their steps for two weeks and reported back. Big Water blew everyone out of the water with a whopping 71 percent of students participating and over seven million steps walked! Kanab came in second and Valley third. We were so pleased with each school and their participation!
The simple act of walking has so many powerful health benefits – helps maintain a healthy weight, improves heart health, protects your bones and so much more! We are excited that the youth of Kane County was so excited to get on board with healthy habits!
