On Saturday, April 23, family, friends, colleagues, and past students of Mr. Sheldon Willardson gathered at the Kanab Elementary School (KES) gym to pay their final respects at a memorial service. Students at KES spent the week displaying their love and memories of Mr. Willardson through chalk art on the school grounds.
Attendees of the memorial service were moved to see all the beautiful chalk art as they entered the school that day. The service included a song sung by the KES choir, a poem by his mother Kay, remarks by his fellow educators Audrey Tullis and Sharon Glazier and an open mic opportunity where people could share their memories and stories of Mr. Willardson through the years.
Mr. Willardson touched many lives of the students he taught at KES for many years, and he will be remembered for noticing each individual, teaching with love, and encouraging his students to be the very best they could be.
