Honoring long-time thrift store volunteer Mary Smith

Mary Smith has volunteered at the Kane County Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store for many years. She will be missed! Photo courtesy of the Thrift Store.

Volunteering at the Kane County Hospital Thrift Store provides untold benefits. If you like to shop, you’ll find no better place and you do get to see things first on the day you volunteer. Every volunteer creates “her finds” as she goes through bags of clothes and other assorted donated items. (Side note: We’ve yet to have a male volunteer for sorting clothing, but we are an equal opportunity volunteer group.)

You won’t find lovelier managers anywhere. They always have a welcoming smile and a thank you for patrons and volunteers. All have been associated with the Thrift Store for years. Another benefit is the lovely people you volunteer alongside, who are always willing to offer an opinion and a laugh.

One such long-time volunteer, who is unfortunately leaving the Thrift Store and will be taking her absolutely engaging and infectious laugh with her, is Mary Smith. She is a welcome and loved ‘fixture’ and we insist she not be a stranger. Her joy and positive attitude towards life will be sorely missed by all.

Here’s a brief reminder about daily and monthly happenings at the Thrift Store. Every Wednesday and Saturday, adults’ clothes are $1 and children’s clothes are $.50. Every 15th and last day of the month, everything in the store, inside and out, are half off. Every day of the week, our white board will reflect specific areas or items on sale that day only. We also post this information on our Facebook page.

If you haven’t noticed, our athletic wear is currently $1 per item, every day of the week. Our t-shirts are now only $.50 each. We’ve got something for everyone, so no one leaves disappointed!

If you’d like to donate items, drop off times are 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday - Saturday. We are open 10 - 4 p.m. for your shopping pleasure. Be aware we will be closed July 4, but open July 24.
