Marchers organize “Hands-Off,” one of the largest anti-Trump/Vance administration rallies to date; hundreds turn out for Kanab and surrounding area marches

On the morning of Saturday, April 5, 2025, marchers lined up along Kanab’s Center Street to participate in the “Hands-Off” protest, a country-wide initiative protesting the current presidential administration’s actions to reduce funding for “social security, public lands, NATO, Medicaid, LGBTQ+ rights, free speech and education.”

Event Organizer Janna Kruse said in a statement to the Southern Utah News, “It is obvious to anyone who is paying attention that our democracy is being dismantled, and our constitution is in crisis. As public services and safety nets are being destroyed, the messaging of the day was clear: keep your Hands Off.”

Event organizers estimate attendance of 200+ at the Kanab site of the protest, with marchers parading down Center with signs and protest banners toting the “Hands Off” message.

Stated the event’s organizers, “It is easy to feel like everyone is in favor of the current administration’s agenda, but they are not … We may seem like a small group, but we represent the people, the majority, the real American dream. We represent hope for this community, town, state and country that we all love.”

Some protestors and locals commented in surprise at the bipartisan nature of some of the protests’ stances: while many of the protestors were vocally progressively aligned, some issues - specifically cited were veterans’ benefits and social security - found support with the Kanab area’s more traditionally conservative base.
