Major progress is being made on storm drainage methods out of the Catori Canyon subdivision, including paving and rock fills along the Powell Drive dip. As the water infrastructure in the area is being worked on and concrete is being laid on drainage and walking avenues, traffic will be restricted to a single lane, with temporary stoplights erected on either side of the Powell dip.
According to project planners working on Catori, the road is planned to be fully opened by Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m. The developer also warns they are scheduled to pave the subdivision in May, during which time they will again close a portion of Powell including the dip to a single lane for two days. During this time, and again in May, drivers should be ready for brief delays over Powell caused by the one lane restriction, as well as a slow-down on Kanab Creek Drive headed into Kanab as traffic demands adjust.
The current discussions of the junction between Kanab Creek and Highway 89 are of note in high-traffic instances like this - according to Kanab City staff, conversations with the Utah Department of Transportation are actively underway to decide the best and most cost-effective method of traffic control at that intersection.
