Whew! The Red Rock Studios Competition Teams, which include 60 dancers from Kanab and surrounding areas, had a busy, exciting and successful season! From being part of a professional music video and shooting commercials for local businesses, to competing at dance competitions all over Utah, these kids have had a great time!
Starting in January, these awesome dancers had the unique opportunity to participate in an Alex Boye music video, in cooperation with Megan Hunt and her RAW Foundation. Alex Boye, a popular singer/songwriter from Northern Utah, graciously worked with these kids in freezing cold temperatures in Springdale to create a meaningful and heartfelt project that will be released soon.
In February, the dancers had the exciting opportunity to film commercials for a select group of businesses in our community. Dukes, Best Friends, Iron Rock, the Office of Tourism, ROAM and Cave Lakes, all teamed up with Kelsey Blasdell and Red Rock to create engaging videos to promote their businesses. “We love reaching out to our community, getting involved, and helping everyone feel connected,” said Jenna Corry, owner and director of Red Rock Studios.

The dance competition season lasted from March until just last weekend, where the dancers finished off their season in Nationals at Lagoon. Some of the notable awards they received this year include:
Excite Team (6-8 years) - High Gold First Place, Best Choreography Award, Top 3 Overall Points for Novice Division, Judges Choice Award for Best Costume, and at Nationals, First Place in their category and Overall High Point Award for all of the Novice competitors.
Elevate Team (8-10 years) - Judges Choice Award, Overall First Place in their category, Third Place Overall High Point Award for Novice Division. Express Team (9-11 years) - Gold Award, Judges Choice Award for Best Costume, First Place in Category. Excel Team (9-11 years) - High Gold Overall First Place, Overall High Point Winner for Beginner Division, Judges Choice Award for Showmanship.
Extreme Team (11-13 years) - Gold Ranking and First Place in Category, Judges Choice Award for Best Costume, and First Place in Category.
Elite Team (12-14 years) - First Place in Category, Judges Choice for Best Choreography, High Gold, First Place in Category.
The award that Red Rock was most proud to receive was the Overall Spirit Award from the Dance America Competition. This award is given to the studio with the most spirit, positive attitude and shows the most kindness to everyone involved. Jenna Corry said, “Our slogan this year was ‘Dance and Be Happy!’” At each competition Red Rock went to, they would hear comments like, “Your studio is like a breath of fresh air!”, “All of your dancers are smiling on and off the stage”, and “there’s something different about your kids, they bring so much joy with them wherever they go!”
We’ve got some great kids here in Kanab. It takes a village to raise our children and youth. Red Rock Studios strives to teach correct performing skills, hard work and dedication. They also encourage kindness, friendship and happiness in their classrooms and on the stage. Red Rock Studios would like to thank all the parents and community members who have supported this year!
