Rolling for Ronald rolls through Kanab during another successful fundraising event

On May 15, 2023 Scott Morgan fired up his mostly-stock Cub Cadet riding lawn mower and hit the road for his third annual Rolling for Ronald fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The ride across Utah takes 10 days and covers 439 miles – and all of it at only 7 miles per hour!

2023 is the last year the ride will take place along the highway. Scott explained, “Next year we’ll be holding a one-day event for families and supporters,” adding that people will be able to join a parade of mowers and other vehicles to help the fundraiser. “We’ll have food and music, too,” said Scott. He encouraged supporters to watch the organization’s Facebook Page for details at facebook.com/rollingforronald.

The team takes about 6 months to plan each ride, coordinating with 22 police departments across the state. Scott says he was inspired to create the fundraiser while mowing his lawn one day four years ago. The event has raised $197,000 for Ronald McDonald House since 2021 and are very close to their final goal of $300,000 in 2023.

Scott drove the northern portion of the route this year, with his wife Tess providing support in a chase vehicle. Robert Lindsay was the southern route driver. “Rumble strips are the worst part,” he said. “In a car they just make noise, but on the mower, they shake you all over the place!”

After reaching the Arizona border this year, the Rolling for Ronald team turned around to meet and greet friends and supporters at Jackson Flat Reservoir in Kanab. Scott, Tess and Robert, accompanied by team supporter Myra Rejholec, sat near the Cub Cadet with its lights flashing to share their story and celebrate the end of this year’s trip. “The donation page will stay open for a couple of weeks more,” said Scott.
