Kane County School District received a competitive grant from the Utah State Board of Education to address school safety. The district received $3,089,738 to improve school safety, where much of the money was awarded to relocate the Valley High School Office to the front of the building.
One of the school safety upgrades is the installation of new intercom systems at Kanab High (KHS), Kanab Middle (KMS), Valley High (VHS) and Big Water Schools. The intercom system controls the bells, allows for individual classroom two-way discussions, and teachers are able to send alert notifications to the office. The KHS intercom system was recently installed, and systems in KMS and VHS will be installed over the next few months.
Kanab Elementary and Valley Elementary already have the new intercoms installed. We will continue to work on plans for the VHS office relocation.
