Around 5 p.m., on Monday, February 12, first responders received a report of a single vehicle rollover east of Fredonia, Arizona, on Highway 89A, at milepost 620.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle begin to swerve before it rolled over once and landed in the upright position. The couple who witnessed the rollover quickly pulled over to assist the male driver out of the damaged vehicle. While the witnesses called for assistance, the driver returned to his vehicle, after which a loud noise was heard.
The witnesses remained at the scene and met first responders, at which time they gave statements and were interviewed. Investigation led first responders to believe the loud noise to be a self-inflicted gun wound, resulting in the death of the driver. The medical examiner’s office carefully removed the body. At this time the incident is believed to be a tragic suicide, and no drugs or foul play are suspected until more information is received from the examiner’s office.
This incident is still under investigation by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Department.
