The temporary stoplights over the intersection of Kanab Creek Drive, 1100 S. and US Highway 89A were uncovered and lit on Tuesday, January 8.
The stoplights include standard crosswalks, with request buttons and walk/ don’t walk indicators on each post. While the light is a temporary traffic control measure while the Utah Department of Transportation organizes funds and crews to install a roundabout over the intersection, multiple Kanab City and Utah State officials estimate it will be a matter of years before that project is ready to begin construction.
Assuming no extenuating circumstances, the temporary stoplights are expected to stand for the duration of the wait - one Kanab citizen stated, “UDOT can take their time. A lot of people preferred a stoplight as the final answer anyway, so the longer we have this up and running the better,” with multiple other statements from locals expressing a similar sentiment.
