Garkane would like to provide an update and thank the community for its continued outpouring of love and support for Tony Baird and his family. Recently, Baird, a Garkane Energy Cooperative employee, accidently touched a live 7200-volt power line in Tod’s substation. Although a review continues, it appears that the flow of electricity moved predominately through Baird’s arm and shoulder, which produced severe burns. He was flown from the substation site near Hatch, Utah, to the UMC Burn Care Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Baird is progressing well and in the words of his doctor, “He’s doing awesome.” He still has a long road ahead and will stay in the UMC Burn Care Center as he recovers.
We are all touched by those we live and love and work within our small communities. There are multiple ways to show support to this dear family, and if you would like to show your support financially, donations can be made at State Bank of Southern Utah or a GoFundMe account has been set up at gofund.me/3c5fd8e5 or you can scan the QR code.
