On Tuesday, August 20, a contingent of the 4A Hurricane Tigers arrived in Orderville for three contests versus the Buffalos clawing their way with the Freshman/Sophomore: 25-12, 25-15 and 15-10. While the home team won the first JV set, 25-15, the visitors ultimately prevailed: 25-19 and 15-11. For the Varsity’s, they won again in three, but not without a valiant Valley fight: 24-26, 25-15 and 25-21. The next day found the Buffalo gals on the turf of the Bryce Valley Mustangs, where, following the JV’s earlier winning three straight, the Varsity likewise breezed through: 25- 16, 25-11 and 25-16.
Head Coach Harmony Cox succinctly states her case, “We had a great first week of competition. We played Hurricane. They were great competition and gave us a look at what we needed to get better at and where our strengths are. We played Bryce Valley, also. Fun matches! We saw some awesome attacking from our athletes. We’re looking forward to a great season.”
At last, now among the quartet of senior team-leaders, the auburn- maned fire-brand Rachel Cox shares her excitement for their farewell tour of the days ahead. “We’re doing really, really good! I think we have a really good team dynamic. We’ve all played for each other for a lot of years, and especially from when we were younger. And, like, the younger players are so enthusiastic, and so good. And they are just relentless! And they take such good feed-back and they’re not afraid to give us feed-back. I think altogether we have a really, really good team dynamic; and in the end, I think it’s going to really pay off. And it helps that we do have a high skill-level. That team dynamic comes first, and I do think that we excel at that. So, we’re doing good.”
On the horizon, there’s an August 27, engagement at Water Canyon and a home game with Beaver on the 29, prior to moseying down for doubleheader meetings in St. George with both Pineview and Alamo, Nevada, who will travel to that neutral midway campus. Action commences at 3 p.m., with our Freshman/ Sophomore vs. Pineview, continuing with the JV’s assault on Alamo at 4:30. Then, Varsity against Alamo at 6 p.m., followed by Pineview at 7:30 p.m.
